The Chef position is responsible for the planning, preparation and cooking of all staff and guest meals at Aleutian Rivers Angling Camp (Sapsuk). This position is supervised directly by the Head Fishing Guide/Camp Manager.
- Plans daily and weekly menus for guests and staff.
- Prepares family style breakfasts and dinners in a timely and efficient manner.
- Prepares lunches for guests and guides to take in the field.
- Ensures all staff and guests’ dietary restrictions are met.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen.
- Properly store food by following food safety policies and procedures.
- Manages the inventory of food and camp supplies.
- Estimates food consumption and orders supplies as needed in a timely manner.
- Assists with general camp housekeeping duties daily.
- Assists with guest room housekeeping on a weekly basis, such as cleaning and changing linens when clients check out, or weekly, whichever is sooner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This job operates in an unpredictable, remote environment where phone and internet communications are limited. Most tasks will be performed on-site at Aleutian Rivers Angling Camp (Sapsuk).
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand for long periods of time, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift supplies up to 50 pounds. This position will require you to cook with a hot stove and oven, work with sharp instruments and powered kitchen, and work with household appliances. This position will be required to regularly use household cleaning chemicals.
- Minimum of five (5) years of work or personal experience planning meals, cooking, and baking for small to medium sized groups.
- Current Alaska Food Worker Card.
- Knowledgeable of proper food handling and preparation standards.
- Basic understanding of customer service practices.
- Prior work and/or living experience in remote wilderness setting.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
- General knowledge of APICDA communities, geographic locations, fisheries, and tourism.
Room and board are included along with transportation to and from Anchorage and the ARA Camp.
This position has two seasons: 1) beginning on or around June 1st, ending around July 20th; and 2) beginning on or around August 20th, ending around October 20th.
