Under the direction of the Operations & Safety Manager, the Logistics Trainee will be working in collaboration with logistic technicians, customer service representatives, quality personnel, and others who are involved with the shipment and receipt of products to and from remote Alaska communities. Responsible for completing all training assignments to gain knowledge and experience related to the job, such as 49 CFR, 15 CFR, DOT, IATA, and IMDG regulations. Reports directly to the Operations and Safety Manager. Temporary employment estimated June-October.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Logistics Trainee
- Perform assigned processes to meet the required daily logistic activities in a safe and efficient manner.
- Collaborate and communicate with logistic technicians, customer service representatives, quality personnel, and others involved or related to the shipment and receipt of products.
- Compile carrier and route assignments.
- Conduct and complete all assigned training.
- Provide additional backup support for shipping and receiving departments.
- Process shipments using land, sea, or air carriers.
- Identity and propose process improvements.
- Assist tracking fishing tickets and department expenditures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Acquire knowledge of 49 CFR, 15 CFR, Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) regulations
- Learn to file Hired Master and CFEC permits for fishermen.
Most operational tasks will be performed in an office environment. While working outdoors the worksite conditions may be cold, wet, and damp.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs; use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to lift, rotate and lower 60 pounds consistently throughout the workday.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school degree or GED.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good understanding of the logistical challenges of transporting supplies to/from remote Alaska.
- Preferred Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred. College education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Commercial fishing experience preferred.
- Strong sense of time organization and urgency.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Aptitude to learn quickly with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain focus, and adapt to a variety of challenges.
- Ability to conduct detailed procedures in a time constrained environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
